Emilie Kiser Life Jacket Controversy: Influencer Apologizes After Son Was Filmed on Boat Without Safety Gear

Influencer Emilie Kiser is publicly apologizing and taking full accountability following the Emilie Kiser life jacket controversy, a major water safety lapse involving her 16-month-old son Teddy. The online outrage erupted after footage surfaced showing the toddler sitting on a recreational boat in Spain without a safety vest.

In a candid video posted on Friday, August 14, the 27-year-old content creator acknowledged the severe lapse in judgment. She admitted she and her 29-year-old husband, Brady Kiser, made a massive mistake while navigating the waters of Mallorca during a family vacation in June. The couple had briefly removed Teddy's gear to calm him down because he was being particularly fussy on the water.

The now-deleted footage was originally posted online by fellow influencer Madi Curtis. It captured Teddy sitting next to his father on the moving vessel entirely unprotected. Under local regulations in Spain, children under the age of 13 are required to wear safety devices on moving recreational boats.

"There is no reason ever why a child should be out of a life jacket," Emilie stated.

Since enduring that unimaginable loss, Emilie has consistently used her massive platform to advocate for water safety. In her August 14 video, she confirmed that her family immediately installed a secure pool fence at their home.

"We have not, we will not, and we do not swim in our swimming pool where our child drowned," she explained to her followers. She also updated fans on Teddy's water-safety preparation, confirming the 16-month-old has been taking infant swimming lessons for months. He is currently enrolled in his second round of classes, and his mother proudly noted he is doing exceptionally well.

Emilie first addressed the boat video in a written Instagram Stories post on July 28. She wrote that Teddy should have worn his vest for the entirety of the ride.

She acknowledged the criticism completely, explaining that the ongoing online conversations hold people accountable. Emilie noted it remains incredibly painful to discuss water safety in the wake of Trigg's death, but she plans to continue doing so when she feels emotionally ready. She remains determined to help other families avoid similar tragedies. She previously called her oldest son's death a preventable accident that she will always take full accountability for, because a parent is ultimately responsible for protecting their children.
