For most people, meeting a parent for the very first time as a teenager would be a highly dramatic television moment. But when it comes to the Paris Jackson Debbie Rowe relationship, the reality was incredibly casual. The 28-year-old singer and actress recently opened up about the exact moment she finally came face to face with her biological mother at age 15. Speaking on an August 12 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Paris revealed that she simply walked downstairs in her house, spotted her mother sitting in the living room, and offered a basic greeting.

"I was just like, ‘Hey, Mom,’ and she was like, ‘Hi,'" Paris recalled during the podcast interview. She explained that they sat down, talked for a brief second, and then headed out to spend the day hanging out together.

The relaxed nature of that first encounter set the tone for a deeply authentic bond. Paris explained that she originally asked about her mother when she was around 10 or 11 years old. At that time, she was given her mother's name and felt entirely satisfied with the answer, choosing to just move on with her life. It was not until she was 15 that the two actually connected in person. From there, they grew even closer by the time Paris reached her late teens.

"When I walk into something and I don’t have expectations, it creates this really cool space for something organic to just blossom."

Today, Paris credits their strong connection to a very specific mental approach. She told the podcast audience that she purposefully enters their dynamic without any heavy expectations. According to the musician, approaching a relationship with strict expectations usually leads to feeling disappointed, frustrated, or irritated. It can even cause resentment to be born. By dropping those pressures, she found a cool space where a genuine connection could grow organically. She also pointed out their astrological similarities. Since Rowe is a Sagittarius and Paris is an Aries, they both carry a lot of fire and are very similar people.

The history between Rowe and the Jackson family is famously complex. Rowe, who is now 67, met global pop icon Michael Jackson while working as an assistant in a dermatology office. The pair married in 1996. They welcomed two children together: Prince, who is now 29, in 1997, and Paris in 1998. Following their divorce in 2000, Rowe handed full custody of the children over to Michael Jackson. Paris also has a younger brother named Bigi, 24, who was born via surrogacy.

After the highly publicized split, Rowe moved to Palmdale, California, to breed horses and maintain a strictly private life out of the public eye. The mother and daughter experienced periods of estrangement before a major turning point arrived in 2013. According to previous reporting from PEOPLE, a source stated that Paris was experiencing teenage angst and feeling unloved. Paris took the initiative to reach out and establish a relationship. This move was fully supported by her grandmother and legal co-guardian, Katherine Jackson. Rowe was entirely open to the reconciliation.

Their bond was heavily tested and ultimately strengthened a few years later when Rowe was diagnosed with breast cancer. During an October 2016 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rowe praised her daughter's unwavering support. She called Paris her rock and revealed that the teenager reached out within 30 seconds of hearing the medical news.

When Rowe completed her grueling chemotherapy treatments in 2017, Paris celebrated the massive health milestone publicly. She posted an Instagram photo of Rowe holding a sign declaring she was done with chemo.

"My badass mom, kickin butt n takin names," Paris wrote in the caption at the time.

That closeness remains very much intact today. Just this past February, Paris updated fans on their current dynamic by sharing sweet photos on her Instagram Stories. The images showed the pair smiling and cuddling outdoors, accompanied by a simple caption reading "Lately" with a red heart emoji. By letting go of the past and ignoring outside pressures, the duo managed to build a relationship that works perfectly for them.
